Eugene Police Department On January 16, 2025, 37-year-old Thomas Matthew Dunlap of Eugene was sentenced to 36 months in the Oregon State Department of Corrections. Dunlap was convicted of Burglary in the First Degree, Burglary in the First Degree (occupied dwelling), Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and Theft in the Third Degree.  Dunlap is known to consistently target campus-area residences belonging to college students. In this case, where Dunlap was charged and convicted through Lane County Circuit Court, Dunlap accessed the laundry room of an apartment complex on two different occasions. In an attempt to gain access to a storage unit located inside the laundry room, he used a torch-lighter to burn the door before stealing a ladder from the building.
